Decline in Interest in Working in the Netherlands from India, Britain, and Poland

The Netherlands is experiencing a decline in interest from workers in India, Britain, and Poland, according to a report by the Financieele Dagblad, which cites research conducted by the online jobs site Indeed.

Indeed’s research, which tracks clicks on job advertisements from different countries, indicates that while the Netherlands remains a popular destination for workers from Belgium, Germany, and Spain, interest from other countries has waned.

The most significant drop in interest comes from India, with a decrease of 48%. This is notable as India has traditionally been a major source of IT workers for the Netherlands. Interest from British job seekers has fallen by 40%, while interest from Polish workers has decreased by 32%.

Indeed suggests several factors contributing to this downturn. Stricter regulations, such as the crackdown on sham self-employment, requiring formal contracts for workers previously classified as self-employed, are believed to be a factor.

Discussions regarding potential changes to the 30% ruling—a tax benefit allowing some foreign workers to receive 30% of their salary tax-free—have also likely played a role in discouraging potential workers.

Furthermore, the research points to housing difficulties, high living costs, and political uncertainty as additional factors contributing to the decreased interest in working in the Netherlands.

Conversely, interest in working in the Netherlands has increased from countries like the Philippines and Indonesia. These workers are primarily seeking jobs in sectors such as construction, healthcare, farming, and domestic help.
