Arrest in Cold Case: Amsterdam Woman Held in 1995 Murder

A 68-year-old woman from Amsterdam has been arrested in connection with the 1995 murder of 57-year-old Henny Grannetia. The arrest comes nearly three decades after Grannetia was found dead in his apartment.

Grannetia was discovered on March 7, 1995, in his flat on Kijkduinstraat in Amsterdam-West, having suffered fatal head trauma and strangulation.

The cold case was reopened, and investigators re-examined blood traces found on shoes that had been seized from the woman in 1995, which led to the breakthrough.

At the time of the original investigation, the woman had been arrested in connection with another murder that had occurred a few days earlier.

The suspect had been arrested on suspicion of murdering a 66-year-old German man on February 26, 1995, who was found dead in a hotel room on Haarlemmerstraat. She admitted to stealing money and drugs but was acquitted of murder.

The Netherlands Forensic Institute (NFI) has matched DNA from Grannetia to the blood traces found on the suspect’s shoes.

Police said the DNA match, as well as corroborating witness statements and other evidence pointing to the same suspect, led to this week’s arrest.

Due to medical reasons, the suspect was released from custody by the examining judge on Tuesday and remains under investigation.
