The Amsterdam Rainbow Dress, a sixteen-meter diameter garment made entirely of flags, is currently on display under the escalators in the Forum until next Saturday, aiming to promote acceptance and equality for the LGBTQ+ community. This artwork has been traveling the world for years to raise awareness about LGBTQ+ acceptance.
The dress incorporates national flags from countries where belonging to the LGBTQ+ community is outlawed. In these nations, being gay, lesbian, or transgender can result in imprisonment, assault, or even the death penalty.
When a country adopts inclusive legislation for the LGBTQ+ community, its flag on the dress is replaced with the rainbow flag, symbolizing progress and acceptance.
The model featured in promotional materials is non-binary and from Trinidad and Tobago, where being LGBTQ+ is punishable. The exhibition of the dress coincides with Pride Groningen 2025, allowing visitors to admire the artwork during the event.
