The Dutch Council of Ministers will be fully staffed again next Friday with the appointment of several new ministers and state secretaries. This follows the recent resignations and the decision to divide the Asylum and Migration post into three separate roles.
Several key appointments have been made across various ministries. Caspar Veldkamp (NSC) will take on part of the Foreign Trade portfolio, previously held by Reinette Klever (PVV). Diplomat Hanneke Boerma (NSC) will also be appointed to a portion of the Foreign Trade responsibilities.
Daniëlle Jansen (NSC) is set to succeed Fleur Agema at the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport (VWS). Jansen, who joined the House of Representatives in 2023, has a background as an associate professor at the University of Groningen, specializing in healthcare.
Vincent Karremans (VVD) will be promoted from State Secretary for Youth, Prevention and Sport to Minister of Economic Affairs. Judith Tielen (VVD) will fill the vacated role of State Secretary. Thierry Aartsen (VVD) will become State Secretary for Infrastructure.
Robert Tieman (BBB) will take over the Ministry of Infrastructure from Barry Madlener (PVV). Tieman is a board member of the Delfland Water Board and has experience in the chemical industry and at employers’ organization VNO-NCW.
Nicky Pouw-Verweij (BBB) is making a political comeback as State Secretary for Long-Term Care. Pouw-Verweij previously served in the Senate and the House of Representatives for Forum for Democracy and JA21 before joining BBB in 2023.
All new ministers and state secretaries will serve in a demissionary capacity, as the current cabinet has already resigned pending elections on October 29. Despite the short term, they may remain in their positions for an extended period, possibly a year or longer, as cabinet formations in the Netherlands often take considerable time. The caretaker cabinet is also responsible for preparing the 2026 budget this summer.
