Thousands of demonstrators, clad in red, marched to the Peace Palace in The Hague on Sunday to protest against Israel. The action, a joint effort by over ninety aid organizations, including Oxfam Novib, Amnesty International, Doctors Without Borders, PAX, Save the Children, and The Rights Forum, aimed to draw a ‘red line’ symbolizing what they consider to be unacceptable actions by Israel.
The protest commenced on the Malieveld in the early afternoon, with the procession setting off towards the International Court of Justice of the United Nations around 1:30 PM. Organizers like Michiel Servaes, director of Oxfam, emphasized the mobilization of a ‘silent majority’ previously hesitant to voice concerns about Gaza due to the political climate.
While the exact number of participants is difficult to ascertain, with the police refraining from providing estimates, reports indicate significant crowds. NS reported very full trains heading to The Hague, suggesting a substantial turnout.
The outgoing cabinet of Prime Minister Dick Schoof has so far made no comment.
