Major train traffic disruption in Groningen due to station reconstruction

Groningen’s central station will be completely inaccessible by train from June 14 to July 12 due to extensive reconstruction work. Passengers should anticipate significant disruptions and plan their journeys accordingly.

During this period, no trains will run to or from Groningen’s central station. This impacts all train traffic, including routes previously still in operation by Arriva.

Replacement buses will serve several routes: Groningen – Roodeschool/Eemshaven, Groningen – Groningen Europapark, Groningen – Zuidhorn, and Groningen – Delfzijl. These bus services are intended to mitigate the impact of the train suspension.

Passengers traveling to or from Leeuwarden, Delfzijl, and Roodeschool/Eemshaven will be affected by the construction, as train travel to and from Groningen station on these routes will be impossible starting June 14.

Travelers should expect an increase in travel time of 15 to 45 minutes, depending on their specific route. It is strongly advised that passengers utilize the Arriva or NS travel planner to meticulously plan their trips in advance to account for these delays and bus transfers.

The most significant disruptions will occur during the final weekend of the operation, from July 10 to July 12, when all train services in Groningen will be suspended. Replacement buses will also operate on routes between Groningen Europapark and Assen, Veendam, and Bad Nieuweschans during this period.
