The Netherlands emerged as a prominent hub for drug-related activities in Europe in 2023, according to the European Drugs Agency (EUDA).
A significant number of dismantled MDMA, amphetamine, and heroin processing locations were found in the country, along with a high concentration of drug dumping sites.
Out of 36 dismantled MDMA labs in Europe, 32 were located in the Netherlands. The country also led in amphetamine production, with 38 out of 93 labs discovered there. Furthermore, 10 out of 14 heroin cutting and packaging locations were found within its borders.
The Netherlands also recorded a substantial number of drug dumping sites, with 191 out of the 236 discovered in the European Union.
In 2023, Dutch police dismantled eight designer drug labs.
Regarding nitazenes, a dangerous synthetic opioid, no overdoses were reported in the Netherlands in 2023. However, two individuals were hospitalized this year due to nitazene use, and a recent fatality occurred involving fake oxycodone pills laced with the substance.
