Groningen’s Stranger Things Have Happened Hosts First Improv Marathon

Groningen’s comedy scene witnessed a significant event on June 14th as Stranger Things Have Happened (STHH) organized what is believed to be the city’s first improv marathon. The event showcased 18 acts by individuals and groups, providing a full 12 hours of improvisational comedy at STHH’s new venue, Strangers’ Garage.

The marathon featured a diverse range of comedic talent, highlighting the vibrant improv community in Groningen. Performances were entirely unscripted, with scenes created spontaneously, some incorporating suggestions from the audience to ensure a unique experience for each show.

The evening concluded with an afterparty at Martinus Brewery, a long-standing partner and the regular location for STHH’s weekly improv comedy jams. This collaboration underscores the close-knit relationships within the local comedy scene.

STHH, the comedy group responsible for the marathon, has been a fixture in the Dutch improv landscape since its founding in Groningen in 2009. They have consistently delivered spontaneous and engaging performances throughout the Netherlands.

Earlier this year, STHH expanded its presence with the opening of Strangers’ Garage. This dedicated venue now serves as a hub for regular performances, workshops, and community improv jams, further solidifying STHH’s role in fostering the growth of improv comedy in Groningen.
