Dutch singer Douwe Bob is facing death threats after he cancelled his performance at a Jewish children’s soccer event in Amsterdam, citing the spread of Zionist propaganda. The singer claims the event violated an agreement to remain free of political or religious statements.
Douwe Bob stated that he encountered Zionist posters and pamphlets at the Jom Ha tournament, leading him to believe the event was being used for political purposes. He emphasized that the organizers had broken their promise to avoid political or religious messaging, which prompted his departure.
The singer is now trying to defend himself against accusations of antisemitism. He highlighted that he performed at the opening of the Holocaust museum in Amsterdam earlier this year.
VVD leader Dilan Yesilgöz criticized Douwe Bob on social media, stating that children were being denied a show simply because they are Jewish. Yesilgöz’s post and similar statements have reportedly led to the death threats against the singer.
Douwe Bob has offered to invite the children to his home and perform for them there. He maintains that his decision was based on the broken agreement and that he believes he “did the right thing.”
