A 24-year-old woman has been sentenced to one year in prison for her involvement in a violent home robbery in Esbjerg last summer. The crime involved a group of men who attacked a man in his home, striking him in the head with an axe.
The Esbjerg court determined on Friday that the woman acted as the driver for the group and was aware that the trip from Sønderborg to Esbjerg was for the purpose of committing a robbery. The five men involved in the robbery have received significantly longer prison sentences for aggravated home robbery.
During the robbery, which took place on July 17 of the previous year, the victim sustained lacerations to the back of his head after being hit with an axe. The stolen goods included a Rolex watch valued at approximately 128,000 kroner, as well as other items and cash.
Two of the men, 42-year-old Andy Brian Skriver and 19-year-old Ernst Frederick Swilley-Hansen, were each sentenced to five years and six months in prison. They have both immediately appealed the decision to the Western High Court.
Three other men, 33-year-old Atia Sami Abdul Halim, 30-year-old Abdul Talal Atia Abdulhalim, and 19-year-old Hassan Salah Yassen, each received a five-year prison sentence. They have also appealed their sentences.
The courtroom was filled with approximately 50 people during the verdict announcement, and some audience members reacted with anger. One family member of a convict voiced frustration with the legal system.
Prosecutor Marie Rasmussen stated in a press release from the South and Southern Jutland Police that it was a serious case of aggravated home robbery and the sentences reflected that fact. Home robbery is defined as a case where the victim is targeted in their home and does not know the perpetrators beforehand, with a starting point of five years in prison.
