A 40-year-old woman has been remanded in custody following a knife attack on a police officer in Grindsted, Denmark, on Wednesday. The incident occurred in an apartment on Grønningen, during which the officer sustained multiple injuries.
The officer was promptly taken to the hospital for treatment and is now reported to be out of danger. The Southeast Jutland Police have charged the woman in connection with the attack.
During a court hearing held on Thursday at the Court in Horsens, a judge ordered the woman to be held in custody for four weeks. However, due to her mental state, she will be detained in a closed psychiatric ward instead of a traditional jail.
While the Southeast Jutland Police initially charged the woman with attempted murder, the judge overseeing the case stated that there is no reasonable suspicion that the woman intended to commit homicide. The court’s current assessment suggests there is reasonable suspicion that the woman committed violence of a particularly dangerous nature.
The woman has pleaded not guilty to the charges in court. During the incident on Wednesday morning, police fired a warning shot immediately after the knife attack.
The events leading up to the attack remain unclear. Police have not disclosed the reason for their presence at the apartment, stating only that it was a police matter.
