A female traveler has been apprehended at Copenhagen Airport after being found in possession of 5,000 doping pills and half a liter of liquid doping. The incident has raised concerns among authorities regarding the increasing trend of doping smuggling.
Customs officers became suspicious of the woman upon her arrival and subsequently scanned her bag, leading to the discovery of the illicit substances.
Minister of Taxation Rasmus Stoklund expressed satisfaction that the Customs Agency was able to prevent the harmful substances from entering the country. He also voiced concern about the prevalence of doping use and its damaging effects on individuals’ health and lives.
Stoklund emphasized the importance of effective customs control to prevent the entry of harmful goods.
The Customs Agency at Copenhagen Airport is cooperating with the Copenhagen Police, who have taken over the case.
This incident underscores a concerning trend of increasing doping smuggling attempts into the country. For the fifth consecutive year, customs seizures of doping substances have risen.
In the past year, authorities thwarted 1,833 attempts to smuggle doping, seizing over 205,000 pills and ampoules, along with 40 kilograms of raw materials used in doping production. This represents a significant increase from 2023, when 1,375 smuggling attempts were prevented, and 153,284 pills and ampoules were seized.
