A significant wildfire is currently burning near Skagen, prompting a large-scale response from emergency services. The blaze broke out on Monday afternoon in an area close to The Buried Church (Den Tilsandede Kirke), also known as Sankt Laurentii Kirke, a medieval church located in the dunes west of Skagen.
Firefighters are concentrating their efforts on Skagen Klitplantage, situated approximately ten kilometers south of Skagen. The police have issued an urgent appeal to motorists to clear the way for firefighting vehicles to access the affected areas around Gl. Landevej and Skagen Hede.
Emergency services are present in “massive” numbers, according to police reports. Civilians are being urged to evacuate the dune plantation immediately to ensure their safety. The firefighting operation involves personnel from multiple stations across North Jutland. To bolster the response, the Danish Emergency Management Agency has been called in to provide additional support.
