Vesterbro to Honor Former Homeless with “Walk of Fame” Tiles

Vesterbro will inaugurate its own “Walk of Fame” on September 4th, honoring three individuals who have overcome homelessness, drug addiction, and sex work. Henrik Nørgaard Christensen, Julie Arendal Klusmann Christensen, and Philip Larsen, all former members of vulnerable populations, will each receive a tile.

The honorees are now affiliated with Gadens Stemmer (Streets’ Voices), an organization that conducts weekly city walks led by individuals with lived experiences of homelessness and marginalization. Gadens Stemmer reported that in 2024 they hosted 1,450 city walks for 22,000 paying guests.

Vickie Bak Laursen, Head of Gadens Stemmer, stated that the “Walk of Fame” aims to recognize those who are often overlooked and face prejudice. She emphasized that the initiative sends a clear message that their voices are valuable.

Philip Larsen, a street guide with Gadens Stemmer and one of the tile recipients, expressed that the organization played a pivotal role in his personal transformation, enabling him to overcome guilt and shame and build a dignified life.

The unveiling ceremony will be hosted by Pelle Hvenegaard and will feature speeches from Social Minister Sophie Hæstorp Andersen (S) and Chairman of the Social Committee Nanna W. Gotfredsen (M). The event will also include a musical performance.

The program will commence at 2:30 PM with a free city walk led by street guide Henning, starting from Stampesgade 1. These city walks are a regular activity organized by Gadens Stemmer in Copenhagen, Aalborg, Odense, and Vejle, providing a platform for individuals with firsthand experience of life on the margins of society to share their stories.
