Vestamager Residents Feel Safe Despite Higher Crime Rate Compared to Other Copenhagen Districts

Vestamager, a rapidly developed district in Copenhagen, boasts a high sense of security among its residents, with 90% feeling safe in their neighborhood. This places Vestamager among the safest districts in the city, alongside areas like Indre By and Østerbro. At night, Vestamager shares the top spot with Indre By, with 85% of residents feeling safe.

Despite the high sense of security, crime statistics tell a different story. In 2024, Amager Vest recorded 4,647 cases of criminal code offenses, equating to 51 reports per 1,000 inhabitants. While this figure is the second lowest in the period from 2014 to 2024 and below the Copenhagen average, Vestamager still ranks relatively high in terms of reported crime compared to other districts. Østamager, Bispebjerg, Indre and Ydre Nørrebro, Kongens Enghave, Valby, Vanløse, and Østerbro all reported fewer criminal code offenses on average.

The main concerns for Vestamager residents include bicycle thefts, reckless driving, and financial crimes like fraud and phishing. More serious offenses such as burglary, robbery, threats, violence, harassment, and sexually offensive behavior are at the bottom of the list of concerns. Residents feel particularly unsafe in paths, stations and stops, and green areas, parks and playgrounds. However, these concerns are still lower compared to the rest of Copenhagen.
