Verdict Expected Today in Negligent Manslaughter Case Against Deportee

A verdict is expected today in the case of a 35-year-old man, residing at the Kærshovedgård expulsion center, charged with negligent manslaughter. The man is accused of causing a fatal car accident in April 2024 that resulted in the death of 55-year-old Beate Anders.

The prosecution has presented over 20 charges against the Afghan-born man, including possession of an illegal knife and violations related to euphoriant substances. The prosecutor is seeking a minimum of six years in prison, deportation, and a permanent driving ban.

The defendant, who had previously been disqualified from driving and admitted to being under the influence of hash at the time of the accident, pleads not guilty. He claims he attempted to avoid the victim’s car and that the accident was her fault.

The case has drawn significant attention due to the defendant’s deportation order from 2021, which could not be enforced because Denmark does not cooperate with the Taliban regime in Afghanistan. This situation has sparked debate in the local community and in government, leading to proposals for stricter conditions for foreigners residing illegally in Denmark.

The trial is being conducted as a jury trial.
