Denmark’s climate spokesperson for Venstre, Christian Friis Bach, argues against claims that providing homeowners with flexibility in replacing gas boilers would have negative economic, security, or climate consequences. Bach emphasizes that the vast majority of Danes should switch to heat pumps or district heating, but forcing the transition by 2035 could create financial strain for over 100,000 homeowners, particularly in rural areas where alternatives are expensive.
Venstre advocates for allowing homeowners to replace gas boilers as they wear out, utilizing green gas in the interim. According to Bach, this approach provides needed flexibility, especially since Denmark is already independent of Russian gas and is increasing its production of green gas.
Bach also refutes claims that this approach will have climate consequences, stating that once the gas supply is 100% green, replacing gas boilers will no longer have a climate impact. He believes that replacing worn-out boilers with green gas is a sensible approach during the transition.
