Vejle Municipality Reports Landowner and Contractor to Police for Unauthorized Earthworks

Vejle Municipality and the Coastal Authority have filed police reports against a landowner and contractor for unauthorized earthworks on a coastal slope by Vejle Fjord. The extensive terrain regulation, which included removing vegetation and hammering iron posts into the slope, violated the beach protection line regulations.

Søren Peschardt, chairman of the Climate, Nature and Environment Committee in Vejle Municipality, expressed his anger and sadness, emphasizing that such actions against nature should not be profitable. The municipality had previously ordered the activity to cease, but the order was not followed.

The Coastal Authority, responsible for enforcing the beach protection line regulations within 300 meters of the beach, independently concluded that a police report was necessary. They are also investigating other conditions in the affected area.

The unauthorized work involved altering an approximately 3800 square meter coastal slope. Trees and bushes were removed, and iron posts were hammered into the slope.

The case originated when Vejle Municipality discovered a break in a sewer line in early April and found contractor machines excavating the slope.

Peschardt intends to involve Minister for the Environment Magnus Heunicke in the matter.

The landowner claims the work was a response to a natural landslide and denies any wrongdoing, while the Danish Society for Nature Conservation reports the disappearance of sand martins that nested on the slope and believes restoration to its original state is impossible.
