Vejle Municipality Reports Landowner and Contractor to Police for Illegal Earthworks

Vejle Municipality has reported a landowner and contractor to the police following unauthorized earthworks on a coastal slope near Vejle Fjord. The municipality took action after the landowner and contractor allegedly ignored orders to cease altering the terrain.

The unauthorized work took place on a slope of approximately 3800 square meters leading down to Vejle Fjord. The works involved the removal of trees and bushes, and the insertion of iron posts into the slope.

The case was initiated in early April when Vejle Municipality discovered a break in a sewer line within the affected area. Municipal staff then observed construction machinery and excavation work underway on the slope.

The Coastal Directorate, which oversees beach protection, was already examining the possibility of filing a police report. Regulations prohibit terrain modification within 300 meters of the shoreline.

Søren Peschardt, chairman of the climate, nature, and environment committee in Vejle Municipality, expressed his frustration and emphasized the importance of preventing such actions from benefiting those responsible. He also intends to involve Minister for the Environment Magnus Heunicke in the matter.

The landowner has claimed that the work was conducted in response to a natural landslide. However, the landowner has denied any wrongdoing in previous statements.

The Danish Society for Nature Conservation has reported the disappearance of sand martins that previously nested on the slope. The organization believes that the area cannot be fully restored to its original condition.
