The University of Copenhagen (KU) has installed its first bust of a woman, Professor Emerita Eva Smith, in front of the Faculty of Law. The unveiling ceremony, attended by the 83-year-old Smith herself, marks a significant moment for the university.

Sculptor Gudrun Steen-Andersen created the bust, which now stands as a tribute to Smith’s groundbreaking career.

Dean of the Faculty of Law, Jacob Graff Nielsen, highlighted Eva Smith’s profound impact on Danish law during his speech. He emphasized her influence on generations of lawyers, both professionally and in her insistence that law remain grounded in reality.

Nielsen also noted Smith’s fearless advocacy and her consistent willingness to speak out on important legal matters with clear and insightful perspectives. Her contributions to the legal community have been marked by wisdom and compassion, according to Nielsen.

The university announced the unveiling on LinkedIn, celebrating the addition of the bust to its campus.
