University of Copenhagen Art Historians Criticized for Erik A. Frandsen Fascism Allegations

Two art historians at the University of Copenhagen have faced scrutiny after implying that visual artist Erik A. Frandsen is a fascist. The allegations stem from their interpretation of one of Frandsen’s works displayed in Randers.

Frandsen filed a complaint with the University of Copenhagen’s Practice Committee, arguing that his artistic intent and statements about the work had been misrepresented. He felt that the art historians’ claims unfairly cast him in a negative light without sufficient evidence.

The Practice Committee acknowledged that the art historians’ statements could be seen as unsubstantiated and potentially damaging to Frandsen’s reputation.

However, the committee ultimately acquitted the art historians of questionable research practice. This means that while their interpretation was criticized, it did not violate the university’s standards for academic research.
