Two men have been remanded in custody following an attempt to defraud a police employee over the phone. The South Zealand and Lolland-Falster Police announced the news on X, detailing the charges against the individuals.

The two men are accused of involvement in Wednesday’s incident, as well as a string of other fraud cases spanning Næstved and Slagelse, and extending into the Central and West Zealand Police district.

The incident unfolded on Wednesday when the police employee received a phone call from an individual impersonating an officer from the National Police. The scammer falsely claimed that unauthorized transactions had been detected on the employee’s account.

Further emphasizing the deceptive nature of the scheme, the police employee was instructed to maintain secrecy regarding the inquiry to avoid compromising the ongoing police investigation.

The swift response from law enforcement led to the apprehension of the suspects. A 32-year-old man was taken into custody upon arriving at the police employee’s residence.

The second suspect, a 29-year-old man, was arrested in close proximity to the location while inside a vehicle.

During the arrest, authorities discovered a quantity of cash and multiple payment cards bearing different names, suggesting a broader pattern of fraudulent activity.
