TV 2 Reports Turnover Increase but Subscriber Numbers Dip

TV 2 experienced increased turnover in the first half of the year, reaching 2.1 billion kroner, a 138 million kroner increase compared to the same period last year, despite a marginal decrease in TV 2 Play subscribers and a decline in traditional advertising revenue. The semi-annual report, released on Wednesday, highlights both successes and challenges for the broadcasting company.

The rise in turnover is attributed, in part, to price increases implemented last spring, which are now fully reflected in the financial statement. Jakob Fink, TV 2’s CFO, characterized the period as “a good half-year in a difficult market,” acknowledging the complexities of the current media landscape.

A notable challenge for TV 2 is the two percent decrease in advertising revenue, driven by a decline in traditional advertising. This dip is being offset by growth in digital advertising revenue within the company.

Furthermore, TV 2 is facing increased competition in the streaming market. The company acknowledges difficulties in both attracting new TV 2 Play subscribers and retaining existing ones. Digital sales are now crucial in compensating for the downturn in traditional business operations.
