3F Aalborg is considering withdrawing its sponsorship of AaB, the relegated Superliga club, due to alleged internal bullying. The trade union announced this on Facebook, citing a possible case of bullying within the club as the reason for the potential termination of the contract, which is set to expire in June 2027.
The decision follows reports in Tipsbladet and other media outlets detailing a possible bullying incident involving former head coach Menno van Dam and an unnamed individual associated with the first team. 3F Aalborg emphasized that bullying and a poor psychological working environment are incompatible with their values.
The trade union had already met with AaB management on Monday to express their concerns and clarify that they do not wish to continue as a sponsor under the club’s current ownership, referring to the German investor group SSE22, which acquired a stake in the club in March 2023. Vesttribunen, the fan association, has also declared its opposition to SSE22, demanding their departure from AaB.
The alleged bullying incident reportedly involves comments made by Menno van Dam about the appearance of the unnamed individual during a bowling trip. Van Dam has declined to comment on the specifics, describing the matter as “internal.” He was dismissed in April, during AaB’s struggle against relegation, and his replacement, Kristoffer Wichmann, was also subsequently fired despite having signed a two-year contract.
