Thor Herdal has been appointed as the new assistant coach for the Danish men’s national football team, joining Brian Riemer’s coaching staff. The agreement is valid for the remainder of the year, as the team prepares for crucial World Cup qualifying matches.
Herdal will continue his role as head of analysis and standard situations at FC Nordsjælland, combining both positions. His expertise in analyzing standard situations is expected to significantly strengthen the national team, particularly in set pieces.
“I am very happy that we now have Thor in our coaching staff,” said Brian Riemer. “He has enormous strong analytical abilities, especially in standard situations, and he will complement our coaching team, so we are even stronger for the crucial World Cup qualifying matches, which can easily be decided on a set piece.”
Herdal will join the national team on the training field starting June 2, in preparation for test matches against Northern Ireland and Lithuania.
“It is a challenge that I really look forward to,” said Thor Herdal, expressing his gratitude for the trust placed in him by both DBU and FCN.
Brian Riemer’s existing coaching staff includes Morten Wieghorst and Daniel Agger. Lars Knudsen, previously responsible for set pieces and acting as national coach during Morten Wieghorst’s illness, will become the U21 national coach this summer.
