Team Esbjerg Takes First Step Towards DM Final with Victory Over Copenhagen Handball

Team Esbjerg is closing in on their fourth consecutive DM final appearance after defeating Copenhagen Handball 34-27 in the first leg of the semi-finals. The victory, secured at home on Tuesday, puts them in a strong position to advance.

While the first half proved challenging, with Copenhagen taking a narrow lead, Esbjerg’s key players stepped up in the second half. Performances from Henny Reistad, Michala Møller, and Anna Kristensen were crucial in securing the win.

Copenhagen initially struggled to contain Esbjerg’s attacking game. However, they adjusted their defense, and goalkeeper Martina Thörn’s impressive saves helped them gain momentum, leading to a 16-15 advantage at halftime.

In the second half, Esbjerg’s goalkeeper Anna Kristensen turned the tide. After nine consecutive scoreless attacks by Copenhagen, Esbjerg went on a scoring run, converting a 17-19 deficit into a 24-19 lead. The hosts maintained their momentum, ultimately securing a comfortable victory.

Esbjerg can secure their place in the final with a win in the second semi-final on Saturday in Frederiksberghallen. A loss would give Copenhagen another chance to upset Esbjerg at Blue Water Dokken.
