A Syrian couple has been sentenced to prison for abducting their two children from a residence near Vejle in February of last year and driving them to Germany. The verdict was delivered on Tuesday in the Court in Kolding, according to a press release from the Southeast Jutland Police.

The 38-year-old woman was sentenced to six months in prison, while the 40-year-old father received an eight-month sentence. Both have also been warned about deportation.

The abduction occurred on February 15th of last year. The mother, who was allowed unsupervised visits, picked up the children, ages 7 and 11, from a residence near Vejle where they were forcibly placed.

The couple then drove the children to Germany. The mother remained with the children until German police detained her on April 30, 2024.

A 41-year-old Syrian man who assisted the couple by lending them his car was sentenced to 30 days in prison and also received a warning about deportation.
