“Star of the Seas” Cruise Ship to Traverse Great Belt

The “Star of the Seas,” one of the world’s largest cruise ships, is scheduled to sail through the Great Belt on Saturday. Built in Turku, Finland, the ship embarked on its initial journey on Friday.

The vessel is en route to Florida, where it will commence its first passenger voyage on August 31 with a cruise to the Caribbean. Royal Caribbean Cruises, the ship’s owner, reports a capacity of 5,610 guests within the 365-meter-long structure.

As of shortly before 1 p.m., the ship was in Langelandsbælt, proceeding towards the Great Belt. The “Star of the Seas” shares the distinction of being the world’s largest cruise ship with Royal Caribbean’s “Icon of the Seas,” also constructed at the Turku shipyard.

The ship boasts over 20 restaurants, six water slides, and a surf simulator. Hundreds of spectators gathered in Turku on Friday to witness the ship’s maiden voyage.
