Firefighters are continuing to battle the Skagen Klitplantage fire as of Friday morning, following reports of small flare-ups overnight. Incident commander Per Hansen from North Jutland Emergency Services confirmed that crews are working to locate and extinguish hotspots that remain deep in the ground.
The operation is expected to take one to two days. Additional emergency personnel are scheduled to arrive throughout the day to assist in the effort.
A drone equipped with a thermal camera is being utilized to identify heat sources below the surface. Firefighters on the ground then investigate these locations to extinguish any flames or embers before they can reignite. Hansen described this process as time-consuming.
The fire, which erupted in the Skagen Klitplantage south of Skagen on Monday afternoon, remains under investigation. The cause of the fire is still unknown.
North Jutland Police have appealed to the public for any information that could aid in determining the origin of the blaze.
