The wildfire in Skagen Klitplantage, which initially broke out on Monday, experienced a resurgence Thursday afternoon but was quickly brought under control. According to Frank Winther, incident commander at Nordjyllands Beredskab, a significant effort was made to contain the flare-up and prevent further spread.
The emergency services were alerted to the renewed fire by a citizen reporting smoke in the area, which was subsequently confirmed by drone imagery. The new fire encompassed an area of approximately 2,500 square meters in the southern part of the affected natural area.
Currently, a substantial number of personnel remain on-site to fully extinguish the blaze. Around 20 firefighters from Nordjyllands Beredskab and an additional 50 personnel from the Emergency Management Agency are actively involved in the cleanup efforts.
The initial fire, which ignited on Monday afternoon, consumed 27 hectares (270,000 square meters) before being reported as under control later that day. However, it reignited on Tuesday, prompting reinforcements from three North Jutland fire stations. The emergency services were subsequently successful in preventing further expansion of the fire.
Winther anticipates that the extinguishing operation will be completed Thursday evening, with a transition to a fire watch overnight. The goal is to conclude all firefighting activities by Friday morning.
The cause of the wildfire remains unknown. North Jutland Police have requested assistance from the public, urging anyone with information relevant to the investigation to come forward. At this time, there is no suspicion of arson.
