A 24-year-old foreign national was arrested Sunday evening after attempting to evade capture by jumping into Copenhagen Harbor.
Police were dispatched to Havnepromenaden near Havnegade and Peder Skrams Gade, close to Nyhavn, at 8:08 PM following reports of the incident.
The man had stolen merchandise valued at 3000 kroner from a local store and fled on foot before leaping into the water.
According to duty officer Michael Andersen, the suspect’s aquatic escape proved unsuccessful as he was quickly apprehended.
The 24-year-old now faces charges of shoplifting but will not be brought before a preliminary hearing.
