Shooting in Vollsmose Likely Gang-Related, One Injured

A 28-year-old man was injured in a shooting in Vollsmose, Odense, late Sunday night, an incident police believe is linked to gang conflict. The shooting occurred around 11:28 PM in Lærkeparken, within a designated visitation zone where police have extended powers.

The visitation zone was established on August 19th by Police Director Arne Gram, following a previous shooting on August 15th that injured two people. This zone allows police to conduct searches of individuals and locations without reasonable suspicion, aiming to uncover illegal weapons. Authorities have seized weapons, including firearms, since the zone’s implementation.

Deputy Police Inspector Michael Lichtenstein acknowledged the insecurity caused by the recent shooting, stating that ensuring citizen safety and security is the police’s top priority, alongside apprehending the perpetrator or perpetrators.

Fyns Politi urges anyone with information about the shooting to come forward. The police had previously assessed on September 3rd that the risk of further violent confrontations between involved groups remained high, justifying the extension of the visitation zone. Police believe the perpetrator intended to kill the 28-year-old man.
