Scottish TV Series “Department Q” Reimagines Jussi Adler-Olsen’s Crime Novels

The new Scottish TV series “Department Q,” based on Jussi Adler-Olsen’s popular crime novels, brings a dark and captivating take to the story of investigator Carl Mørk. The series, now set in Edinburgh, follows Mørk as he heads the dismal Department Q for unsolved cases.

Matthew Goode portrays Carl Mørk, infusing the character with world-weariness and a deep, dark humor. The series maintains the cynicism and sarcasm familiar to fans of the books and Danish films, but with a distinctly Scottish atmosphere.

Mørk is paired with Rose (Leah Byrne) and Akram Salim (Alexej Manvelov), a Syrian refugee with a mysterious past. Salim’s character quickly becomes integral to solving gruesome murders, challenging Mørk’s initial perceptions.

The series emphasizes investigative work and the flawed individuals tasked with delivering justice. “Department Q” explores themes of inner confinement and the idea that people can be their own worst enemies.

All nine episodes of “Department Q” will be available on Netflix starting May 29. The series, directed by , features a cast including Chloe Pirrie, Jamie Sives, Mark Bonnar, Shirley Henderson, and others.
