Safety Survey Reveals Concerns in Copenhagen’s Ydre Nørrebro District

A recent safety survey has revealed that a significant portion of residents in Copenhagen’s Ydre Nørrebro district feel unsafe, particularly after dark. The survey, conducted by the City of Copenhagen, also highlights concerns about crime, trust in authorities, and the environment for raising children.

The survey indicates that 10% of residents in Ydre Nørrebro feel unsafe during the daytime, with that number rising to 16% at night. These concerns are fueled by experiences with bicycle thefts, reckless driving, and vandalism.

In the past year, a third of those surveyed reported experiencing an “insecurity-creating event,” with half of those affected reporting experiences related to violent crime, including stabbings, shootings, and robberies.

While police reports in Ydre Nørrebro remain lower than the Copenhagen average, they are on the rise. Reports have increased from 41 per 1000 inhabitants in 2022 to 52 per 1000 inhabitants in 2024.

Trust in authorities is notably lower in Ydre Nørrebro, with only 46% of residents believing that authorities will effectively handle disturbances, compared to 53% across all of Copenhagen.

Furthermore, only 52% of those surveyed perceive Ydre Nørrebro as a good place for children to grow up, a figure surpassed by most other districts in Copenhagen.
