Russia has strongly criticized Denmark’s plan to allow Ukraine to produce weapons on Danish soil, calling it a provocative move that escalates tensions between Russia and NATO. Ambassador Vladimir Barbin, Russia’s envoy to Denmark, stated that this decision is unprecedented among NATO members who claim neutrality in the Ukrainian conflict.
The criticism follows Denmark’s Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen’s announcement of increased cooperation with Ukraine on weapons production. Poulsen suggested inviting several Ukrainian companies to Denmark within the next six months to begin manufacturing weapons.
During a visit to Kyiv, Poulsen outlined his vision for developing a new arms industry in Denmark, potentially focusing on drone companies located near Odense, where Denmark has established a new drone center. He emphasized the importance of ambition in this endeavor.
Barbin has consistently voiced concerns regarding Danish foreign policy, previously condemning Denmark’s agreement with the United States to allow American soldiers on Danish soil. He also characterized the possibility of sending Danish soldiers to Ukraine as a provocation.
