Risk of Heavy Rain and Cloudbursts in Southern Denmark

The Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI) has issued a risk notification for heavy rain and local cloudbursts in the South Funen archipelago, Southern Zealand, Lolland, and Falster tonight. The risk notification also extends to the rest of Zealand later in the night.

A risk notification from DMI indicates weather conditions that have the potential to escalate into a full-fledged warning. It serves as an alert for weather developments that warrant attention.

A cloudburst is characterized by more than 15 millimeters of rainfall within a 30-minute period. Heavy rain is defined as rainfall exceeding 24 millimeters in a six-hour timeframe.

The anticipated rain is attributed to a low-pressure area originating over the Netherlands and Belgium. Throughout the day, this low-pressure area is forecasted to move northeastward, reaching Denmark late in the afternoon or early in the evening.

The arrival of the low-pressure system is expected to bring rain and showers, potentially heavy in some areas, accompanied by thunder. Cloudbursts are most common in Denmark during the summer season. The first cloudburst of this year occurred on June 1, affecting three locations in Jutland.
