Review of Rørvig Kro: A Charming Inn with Classic Gourmet Food in Odsherred

Rørvig Kro, run by Tanja and Lars Nielsen since 2001, offers a consistent experience of elementary flavor, freshness, and solid craftsmanship in its classic gourmet cuisine. Despite the town’s seasonal challenges, the inn manages to deliver beautiful, solid, and high-quality dishes, maintaining gastronomic integrity. The reviewer awards the inn four stars, expressing hope that the Nielsens can maintain their standards for another quarter-century.

The reviewer visited on a Saturday night, finding the inn packed across several rooms, including one adorned with Bjørn Wiinblad tiles, noting a comfortable atmosphere with ample space between tables. The menu features seasonal offerings and a fixed-price system for multiple courses, alongside a smaller à la carte selection.

The meal began with a glass of J. Charpentier champagne, paired with a “cold dumpling” of celery and smoked cod roe. This was followed by fresh oysters served with lemon and tartar sauce. The first appetizer was a ceviche of yellowfin tuna with woodruff, pointed cabbage julienne, and mango cubes, paired with a Bouzeron Aligoté.

The reviewer highlighted the Danish black lobster with homemade pasta as a standout dish, praising the perfectly prepared lobster, flavorful sauce, and well-cooked pasta. A bottle of Perbacco Langhe Nebbiolo was chosen to accompany the lamb dish, sourced from the inn’s own pastures.

The lamb was described as butter-tender and lean, served with licorice-flavored glaze, Mediterranean flavors, and homemade falafel. The meal concluded with a rhubarb ice cream sandwich with lemon and white chocolate.
