Copenhagen needs to reduce the number of cars on its roads to improve air quality and make the city more appealing for cyclists and pedestrians. A recent analysis indicates that even the transition to electric vehicles is insufficient to eliminate dangerous particulate pollution.
The report emphasizes that dangerous particulate pollution continues to come from sources such as tires and brakes, necessitating further action. The city aims to create a healthier environment where children can play in the streets and residents can cycle and walk without risking illness from air pollution.
One solution that could be transferred to cities such as Copenhagen could be transfering transport away from private cars, the accelerated electrification of vehicles, and the use of low-emission brakes and tires.
Line Barfod, the technical and environmental mayor, states that the municipality is committed to taking all necessary steps to ensure cleaner air.
