Replacement of Train Tracks on the Øresund Bridge Railway Planned

Significant disruptions to train traffic are expected between May 27th and June 9th due to the replacement of 3.5 kilometers of train tracks on the Øresund Bridge railway. The Øresund Bridge company announced the project, which involves replacing rails on one of the two tracks in the Øresund Tunnel.

The round-the-clock track work will result in reduced capacity in train traffic on the route.

From May 27th to May 30th, track work will occur at night in the Øresund Tunnel. During this period, only one track will be open for traffic, leading to reduced capacity in train traffic at night.

From May 30th to June 9th, the track work will intensify and continue around the clock. As with the previous phase, only one track will be open for traffic, further reducing train traffic capacity.

Maintenance Manager Niclas Malmström explained that annual inspections revealed the necessity of this maintenance. According to Malmström, parts of the rails have reached their technical lifespan after 25 years of use, prompting this extensive replacement work.

The Øresund Bridge company stated they are working continuously to minimize disruptions and complete the track replacement as efficiently as possible. The Øresund Bridge spans almost eight kilometers and the Øresund Link itself measures about 16 kilometers. The link is a fixed connection between Denmark and Sweden, comprised of a bridge, a tunnel, and the artificial island of Peberholm.
