Johan Price-Pejtersen’s disqualification from last year’s Danish National Time Trial Championship has been officially reinstated following a decision by the International Cycling Union’s (UCI) disciplinary commission. This final ruling overturns a previous decision by the Danish Cycling Union (DCU) to award Price-Pejtersen the gold medal.
As a result, Mattias Skjelmose remains the rightful winner of the championship.
The DCU initially reversed Price-Pejtersen’s disqualification in January, but it was later determined that their disciplinary committee lacked the authority to overrule the original decision made by the race commissaires.
Price-Pejtersen was initially disqualified for using a cycle path that was not part of the designated race route. Although the Appeals Board of the National Olympic Committee and Sports Confederation of Denmark argued that he did not gain an advantage and that the race route was not adequately marked, the UCI reopened the case in February for further review.
Morten Anderson, chairman of the DCU, expressed his frustration with the lengthy process and announced the formation of a working group to review the handling of the case. The working group aims to identify areas for improvement and prevent similar situations from occurring in the future.
Price-Pejtersen previously voiced his discontent with the DCU after his disqualification was temporarily overturned, lamenting the lost opportunity to wear the Danish National Champion’s jersey.
