A record-breaking 21,214 citizens participated in the “Open Hospital” event held across Denmark’s five regions on Sunday. This marks the highest number of participants since the event’s inception in 2017, surpassing the previous record of 21,000 participants set in 2019.
The “Open Hospital” initiative, a nationwide open house event, provided the public with unique insights into the healthcare system. This year’s event, the eighth of its kind, featured 25 hospitals, construction sites, and ambulance stations across the country. This is the highest number of locations ever included in the event.
Across the regions, diverse activities were offered. For example, at Holbæk Hospital in Region Zealand, participants learned how to suture skin. In Copenhagen, visitors to Region Hovedstaden’s Emergency Services could explore emergency vehicles, with flashing blue lights guaranteed.
The event also showcased future advancements in healthcare. At Odense University Hospital in Region South Denmark, participants could witness the construction of new intensive care, operating, and patient rooms. Region South Denmark alone welcomed 6,700 visitors, hosting numerous events across its departments.
In Region North Jutland, the public was invited to tour the psychiatric buildings under construction in the Hospital City in Aalborg. Danish Regions emphasized that the event offered a chance to experience the current healthcare system and preview upcoming improvements for patients.
