Record Number of Sea Rescues in Denmark Due to Summer Heat

The Danish Sea Rescue Society (DSRS) responded to a record number of distress calls over the past weekend as the summer heat drew more people to the sea and beaches. Between Thursday and Sunday, the DSRS carried out 65 rescue operations in Danish waters.

According to a press release from the DSRS, the high number of incidents reflects the increased risk associated with more people engaging in maritime activities during the summer. The rescue operations began early Thursday morning and continued until late Sunday night.

Kerteminde was the busiest station, with 12 rescues. Juelsminde, Helsingør, and Assens also experienced a high volume of calls.

Despite the high volume of calls, the DSRS reported that there were no serious incidents. Steen Wintlev-Jensen, Chairman of the DSRS, acknowledged the long and demanding weekend for the volunteers. He stated that the organization’s efforts ensured many people had a safer experience at sea.
