A record 21,214 citizens participated in the “Open Hospital” event held across Denmark’s five regions on Sunday, marking the highest number of participants since the event’s inception in 2017. This figure surpasses the previous record of 21,000 participants set in 2019.
The “Open Hospital” initiative, a type of open house event now in its eighth year, invited the public to explore and learn about the Danish healthcare system. Twenty-five hospitals, construction sites, and ambulance stations nationwide hosted events, also marking a record number of locations for the event.

The event also provided insights into the future of healthcare. At Odense University Hospital in the Region of Southern Denmark, participants were able to observe the construction of future intensive care, operating, and patient rooms. Region Syddanmark hosted numerous events across its departments, attracting a total of 6,700 visitors.
In Region North Jutland, the public was invited to tour the psychiatric buildings currently under construction in the Hospital City in Aalborg. According to Danish Regions, the event aimed to provide an opportunity to experience the current healthcare system and gain insight into upcoming advancements for patients.
