Recall of Smoked Halibut Slices Due to Listeria Contamination

Smoked halibut slices sold in Netto, Bilka, and Føtex are being recalled due to the discovery of listeria. The manufacturer, Polar Salmon Hjerting Laks, issued a press release regarding the recall.

Consumers who have purchased the affected product are urged to discard it or return it to the store of purchase. The affected products include Premieur brand smoked halibut sold in Netto with a “best before” date of July 18, 2025, and Salling Princip brand smoked halibut sold in Føtex and Bilka with a “best before” date of July 22, 2025. The lot number for the recalled halibut is 27749254.

Listeria infection can cause symptoms such as fever, diarrhea, and vomiting.

This is not the first time Polar Salmon Hjerting Laks has faced issues with listeria. In January, the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration (Fødevarestyrelsen) reported the company to the police for selling listeria-infected salmon without informing authorities or initiating a recall. The police report was based on analyses from 2023 and 2024 that detected listeria in salmon, to which the company allegedly did not respond.

Listeria can be found in various foods, including meat, vegetables, unpasteurized dairy products, and processed fish products. Food recalls are occasionally issued when listeria is detected, and failure to comply with recall procedures can result in a police report.
