Lay’s Bugles Original and Nacho Cheese flavors are being recalled in Denmark, Greenland, and the Faroe Islands due to elevated levels of mineral oils. The Danish Veterinary and Food Administration announced the recall, citing potential health risks associated with the consumption of these products.
The affected products include Lay’s Bugles Original in 125 and 160-gram sizes, and Lay’s Bugles Nacho Cheese in 125-gram sizes, all with a “best before” date of November 22, 2025. Consumers who have purchased these chips are advised to either return them to the store of purchase or discard them immediately.
The Danish Veterinary and Food Administration stated that the chips were cooked in oil contaminated with mineral oils Mosh and Moah, which are potentially carcinogenic. While the agency clarified that there is no immediate concern from having consumed the chips, they caution against regular intake in larger quantities over time.
Mineral oil contamination in food can originate from various sources, including food packaging and lubricants used in production equipment. Previously, Royal Unibrew, acting on behalf of manufacturer PepsiCo, had also recalled the same chips due to traces of non-food-approved oil. At that time, the company emphasized that consuming a moderate amount should not be cause for concern, but regular intake of larger quantities over an extended period may pose a health risk.
