Tenax Sild A/S is recalling specific batches of its fish cakes sold in several Danish supermarkets due to the discovery of listeria. Consumers are urged to either discard the affected products or return them to the point of purchase.
The recall impacts fish cakes sold under the brand names “First Price Fiskefrikadeller”, “Fiskemandens Fiskefrikadeller”, and “Havfrue Fiskefrikadeller” in stores such as Spar, Meny, Let Køb, Min Købmand, Rema 1000, and ABC Lavpris. The affected fish cakes are marked with a “best before” date of 24.06.2025 and lot number L220YF.
Listeria infection can manifest as fever, diarrhea, and vomiting. Individuals with weakened immune systems and pregnant women face a higher risk of developing more severe complications such as blood poisoning and meningitis. In pregnant women, listeria infection can also lead to premature birth or fetal death.
Listeria is a bacterium found in various foods, including meat, vegetables, unpasteurized dairy, and processed fish. Food recalls are initiated when listeria is detected to prevent potential health risks. Failure to report and recall listeria-contaminated products can lead to police action, as seen earlier this year with Polar Salmon Hjerting Laks.
