Recall of Fish Cakes Due to Listeria Contamination

Tenax Sild A/S is recalling specific batches of its fish cakes sold in several Danish supermarkets due to the discovery of listeria. The affected products were distributed under the brand names “First Price Fiskefrikadeller,” “Fiskemandens Fiskefrikadeller,” and “Havfrue Fiskefrikadeller” at Spar, Meny, Let Køb, Min Købmand, Rema 1000, and ABC Lavpris stores.

Consumers who have purchased the implicated fish cakes are advised to discard them or return them to the point of purchase. The recalled fish cakes are marked with a “best before” date of 26.06.2025 and lot number L220YF.

Listeria infection can manifest with symptoms such as fever, diarrhea, and vomiting. In individuals with weakened immune systems and pregnant women, the bacterium poses a greater risk, potentially leading to blood poisoning and meningitis. Infection during pregnancy may also result in premature birth or fetal death. Pregnant women commonly experience relatively harmless symptoms such as fever, muscle and back pain, and stomach issues.

Listeria can be present in various foods, including meat, vegetables, unpasteurized dairy items, and processed fish products. Food recalls are occasionally issued following the detection of listeria. Failure to report listeria contamination can result in a police report. Notably, Polar Salmon Hjerting Laks was previously reported to the police by the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration for selling listeria-infected salmon without notifying authorities or initiating a product recall. The police report stemmed from the company’s failure to act on listeria detections in salmon analyses from 2023 and 2024.
