The Public Accounts Committee has issued its strongest criticism yet regarding the Ministry of Defence’s ability to safeguard Denmark’s military installations, following a review by the National Audit Office.
The committee is demanding immediate action to correct identified errors and deficiencies, rejecting the Ministry’s proposed timeline for a comprehensive strategy to be implemented by March 2026.
Mette Abildgaard, chairwoman of the Public Accounts Committee, stated at a press conference on Monday that there is no justification for delaying the commencement of necessary improvements.
The Ministry of Defence acknowledged the shortcomings and reported that they have formed a steering group to develop a strategy for prioritizing security enhancement projects.
According to the National Audit Office report, the Ministry also indicated that it may not be feasible to meet all essential requirements and standards for protecting military areas within the foreseeable future.
Abildgaard and the Public Accounts Committee strongly disagree with this assessment and emphasize the urgency of addressing the security vulnerabilities without delay.
