Probationary Judge Faces Complaint After Attending Israel-Palestine Debate

Nina Palesa Bonde, a probationary judge and debater, is facing a potential complaint to the Danish Court Administration questioning her impartiality after she attended a debate on the Israel-Palestine conflict at the University of Copenhagen. The draft complaint, which is circulating online, raises concerns about her presence at what it describes as a “strongly political and with ideological agendas” event.

Bonde, who attended the debate as a spectator, feels that the complaint is a form of harassment and a means of discrediting her. She believes it highlights the dangers of participating in public debate, particularly on sensitive topics like the Israel-Palestine conflict.

In a Facebook post, Bonde addressed the complaint and shared a screenshot of its transcript. She emphasizes that she attended the event in a private capacity and was simply there to listen to the discussion. She fears that the complaint could discourage others, such as teachers and social workers, from participating in public debate for fear of similar repercussions.

Bonde notes that the complaint contains factual errors, including the false claim that she co-organized the debate. She also points out that this is not the first time her impartiality has been questioned, although a previous complaint was rejected.

Despite feeling watched and experiencing the stress of the situation, Bonde remains committed to participating in public debate. She believes it is important to stand up for the right to express opinions, even on controversial issues.

Bonde describes the harassment as coordinated, with the same names frequently appearing in complaints and heated social media debates. Berlingske is aware of a person who shared the complaint against Nina Palesa Bonde on Facebook but the person denies being the author of the complaint. It has not been possible to verify who is behind the draft of the complaint.
