Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen stated that the center government has achieved many concrete results for the Danes in the welfare area and employment and is protecting the security of the Danes. Her comments came after Minister for Economic Affairs Morten Bødskov expressed his party’s desire to continue a broad center government after the next parliamentary election.
Frederiksen acknowledged Bødskov’s satisfaction with the current government cooperation with Venstre and the Moderates, stating that she shares his sentiment.
The Prime Minister’s statement contrasts with the sentiment from nine months prior when she described the government as “strange.” Since its formation in December 2022, the government has faced criticism for unpopular proposals and a lack of results. Disagreements over social democratic agendas, such as the abolition of Store Bededag and changes to the retirement age, have strained cooperation.
These issues have impacted the government’s standing with voters, with polls indicating poor performance in multiple areas.
The timing of changing the system that automatically raises the retirement age remains a point of contention. Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen emphasized the need for a date to enable economic planning.
Regarding the Social Democrats’ government aims, Frederiksen stated that no decision has been made on the government they will form after the election, emphasizing that “It is Denmark’s decision.”
